OMG.... Ok so I feel so foolish. My cat walked all over my keyboard and I don't know what keys she pressed but then I went into windowed mode and couldn't get out. Meg told me that I could go into options and go back into full screen - I thought it was fixed. BUT... it's not because.. I can't see the clock from my desktop or my taskbar thingamabob and when I try to do screenshots, it turns black. ( I don't do screenshots from the F2 button I do actual screenshots of the whole screen and cut the other stuff out because for me, it's easier than finding that ridiculous minecraft folder... -_- don't even get me started on that...) ANYWAY -- someone please help me fix this. It's frustrating me. I'm so lame when it comes to technical things!
Abbz and I figured it out after a lot of trial and error. I was able to click on the crafting table icon (in teeny tiny windowed mode) - in the top left corner of the border. It gave me a drop down menu and some options. "Maximize" was the key. I was unable to use that on the top right corner near the red X. It had been grayed out. Thanks Abbz!
OMG YAS thank you!!!! I have been trapped in fullscreen for months! (Excactly same problem) Wait, how do you get to the drop down menu?
Press escape. Go to options. Say no to full screen. It will become windowed. Right click on the crafting table icon in the left corner. Click maximize.
If you want to be ultra lazy and auto-maximize the window when you launch Minecraft, first maximize it like normal, take a screenshot, find out the width and height of the screenshot in pixels (you can right click->Properties for the size) then edit your profile in the launcher, check the Resolution checkbox, then enter the width and height of the screenshot in there. Boom.
Doesn't sound like something an ultra-lazy person would do.... And for once macs are superior for gaming. Depending on your version of OS X, you can just press a button to go full screen and still be able to see menu bar or dock if you scroll over.
Sorry to bring this back up, but I'm having the same problem. I can't see my tool bar while playing. Also, Every time I go to record my Minecraft screen overlaps the record box. I tried everything I can, including the tips here. C0w's method works until it gets to the screen where you can select Singleplayer or Multiplayer. Then it overlaps the record box. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
